The Breakout Skincare Regime

You know the times. Whether you're feeling overworked, had too many Taco Bell trips or just didn't feel like taking your makeup off once or twice last week, breakouts happen. Some times are scarily worse than other times, leaving you sad, hopeless, and wanting to continue to eat as much chocolate as possible...

I've definitely been there. Neglecting to take care of your skin is pretty easy to do, especially when the chaos of life takes over and cleansing and moisturizing is the last thing on your mind. When my skin is feeling a bit worse for wear, I change up my skincare routine to cater to whatever is going on with my face. I find that, usually, the right combo of products works wonders. I want to point out that sometimes it takes a while to figure out what products work for your skin, and that's okay. It has taken me a long time and much trial and error to figure out what works for me, so the ones I suggest below may or not be for you - but I think it's worth a shot!

The first thing I make sure to reach for when I'm suffering from breakouts is the Clean and Clear Deep Action Exfoliating Scrub. Now, I know this may not be the most glamorous of products, but I swear by it. I've been using this on and off for around 6 years, and it really does keep my skin under control. Since it's a pretty harsh exfoliant, I try not to use this too much and only when I feel like my skin is in need of some serious cleansing. Plus, it's only around $5, so I don't sweat when I have to repurchase.

Next, I make sure to spritz on my LUSH Tea Tree Water. The bottle says it's good for acne and oily prone skin since I think it can be a little drying, meaning it's perfect for breakouts. It makes your skin feel amazing and refreshed.

Then I reach for the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum. Since a bottle of this is outrageously expensive, I use it sparingly. Just a dime sized amount (maybe even smaller) goes a long way. I just rub this all over my face and let it soak in as a preparation for my moisturizer. This is a cult beauty favorite for a reason - it helps repair the skin overnight, helping shrink pores and get rid of blemishes.

When I have breakouts, I don't like to put anything too heavy on my face because I feel like I'm going to clog my pores even more, so I stick to a lighter moisturizer. Again, one of my personal favorite non-glamorous products is the Clean and Clear Dual Action Moisturizer. I have been using this as long as the scrub mentioned above, and it really helped me with my skin in those horrible, pubescent teenage years. It's perfect for spots because it contains salicylic acid which helps with acne, it's light on the skin, and gives off a minty smell and that nice tingly sensation so you really feel like it's doin' somethin.

Finally, I finish off any of those stubborn spots with the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. This stuff is actually amazing. I've never tried a spot treatment that has worked as well as this. I'd say 9 out of 10 of the times I use this on a blemish, it's dried up the next morning. If you take away anything from this post, it's to buy this stuff. You and your acne will thank you.
